- Multics Project on GE 645 by GE and MIT, Bell joined later in 1965
- Bell labs left in 1969
- Ken Thompson with Dennis Ritchie developed Unics (UNIX) for PDP-7 (opposed to Multics)
- Unix written in Assembler and B
- Dennis Ritchie developed B into C
- When 1973 most of UNIX were C
- In 70's Court ordered AT&T not to sell S/Ws
- AT&T gave away UNIX to universities
- Berkeley University released BSD (Berkeley Software Distribution) version of UNIX
- BSD went to commercial market
- System V and BSD1 aroused
- In 1984 AT&T allowed to sell UNIX
- Released System 3 followed by System V (up to release 4 (SVR4))
